Offered as a premium hanging option, our hand-spliced 1.5″ thick black rope makes a visual statement that few other hanging options can match. Generally purchased for it’s bulkier profile, the increased diameter gives your swing bed a bold, substantial presence, and the hand-spliced ceiling connections eliminate top knots entirely. Similar to our 1″ Pro-Synthetic option, the thick and sturdy nature of the 1.5″ rope not only ensures a secure and reliable support system for your daybed, but also adds a touch of natural elegance.
Hand-splicing is a traditional rope-working technique where the fibers are woven back into themselves to create a permanent loop; that means no knots visible at the ceiling, and a continuous, streamlined profile down to the swing.
This is the hanging option for homeowners who treat every detail as a design decision. It pairs exceptionally well with our modern designs where a thick, clean-hanging black rope creates a striking contrast against painted finishes (think The Charlotte, The Kiawah, and The Savannah)

What does “hand-spliced” mean?
Instead of tying a knot at the ceiling, the rope end is woven back into itself to create a permanent, seamless loop. This eliminates the bulky knot at the top and gives the installation a much cleaner, more refined appearance. Each splice is carefully performed by hand with a Swedish Fid, and loose ends are sealed.
Why is this thicker rope better?
In this case, “better” is subjective. Beyond the visual impact of 1.5″ vs 1″ diameter, the thicker rope feels more substantial in the hand and some would argue it creates a bolder design statement. It’s particularly impactful on larger swing beds (Twin and Full) whereas it can quickly dwarf smaller swings or swings in smaller spaces.
Is this worth the upgrade from standard rope?
This answers comes down to aesthetic preference 90% of the time. If design details matter to you and you’re chasing a larger presence on your porch, then absolutely. The hand-spliced connections and 1.5″ diameter certainly elevate the overall look of the swing bed, but you can achieve an equally attractive appearance with alternate options as well. Its really about whatever YOU want!
