The company was founded here in the Lowcountry, where porches are a way of life and the pace of a summer afternoon moves at its own rhythm. When Cole Wadsten took the helm in 2023, he inherited a philosophy that we carry forward today.
Every swing bed we make starts as raw lumber, sourced from FSC-certified forests, milled and shaped in our workshop by a team of skilled artisans who have spent years perfecting their craft. There’s no outsourcing or shortcuts, just the same six-step process, applied to every order, every time.

Lowcountry Swing Beds is founded in Charleston, South Carolina. The first swing beds are handcrafted in a small local workshop with a clear intention: build something that will outlast the trends and earn its place on the porch for good.
Our journey took a spotlight moment in 2015 when our handcrafted swing beds landed on the cover of HGTV Magazine. From there, the world discovered what we already knew: there’s nothing quite like the slow sway of a Lowcountry Swing Bed.
Press placements in Architectural Digest, Elle Decor, LIFE Magazine, and Bravo TV follow in the years ahead. The customer base expands nationwide as more families discover that a swing bed built by hand is a fundamentally different thing from anything else on the market.
The Wadsten family, led by Cole Wadsten, takes ownership of Lowcountry Swing Beds, carrying forward the same philosophy that shaped the brand from the start. The team, the process, and the commitment to quality remain unchanged. What grows is the vision for where the brand goes next.
