Description

The natural manila rope package is our most traditional hanging option, and the one that defines the classic porch swing bed aesthetic. There’s a reason every Southern Living porch feature seems to include a swing bed on manila rope: the classic warmth of Manila’s natural fiber creates a look that’s instantly inviting, organic, and timeless.

Our manila rope is 1″ diameter 100% natural fiber, cut to your specified ceiling height and shipped with all the hardware you need for a complete 4-point installation. Over time, the rope develops a beautiful weathered patina that only adds to its character — the longer you have it, the better it looks.

Manila rope is the ideal pairing for farmhouse, traditional, coastal, and cottage-style swing beds. It’s particularly striking with The Edisto, The Cooper River, The Windermere, and The Sullivan’s Island.

What’s Included: Four lengths of 1″ manila rope sized to your ceiling height, attachment hardware (if specified), and installation instructions.

Important Note: This rope is susceptible to seasonal stretching in humid climates. You may need to retie and tighten knots periodically (instructions included) depending on location. If your swing bed will live in a tropical or high-humidity environment, consider our 1″ Poly Rope Package for a lower-maintenance alternative with a similar aesthetic.

FAQ's

How often will I need to retie the knots?

It depends on your climate. In dry or moderate climates, you may only need to adjust once or twice in the first year as the rope settles, then rarely thereafter. In humid or coastal climates, plan on checking and adjusting as frequently as every few months during the first year.

Does manila rope shed or fray?

New manila rope may shed some loose fibers initially, which is normal for natural fiber rope. This decreases significantly after the first few weeks of use. If loose fibers bother you, our poly rope offers a shed-free alternative.

What ceiling height should I choose?

Measure from your ceiling to your floor, and pick the nearest available option. We process our rope orders with an additional 3 feet of length to provide ample room for decorative finished knots if you so choose.
