The Cooper River model has been on our roster since the very beginning. After launching our company into superstardom on the Cover of HGTV magazine nearly 10 years ago, it became THE defining design for Lowcountry Swing Beds. Today our signature Charleston Bed Swing can be found in the homes of various celebrities, as far away as Saudi Arabia, or maybe even down the street at your neighbor’s house.

The Cooper River was inspired by one of Charleston’s defining waterways; flowing into Charleston Harbor and helping shape the history, commerce, and beauty of the Lowcountry for centuries. Early English colonists named it for Anthony Ashley Cooper, one of the Lords Proprietors of Carolina, and over time the river became deeply tied to the growth of the Charleston region and the quiet, marsh-lined landscape that makes this part of South Carolina so distinctive. 

We named this classic Charleston Bed Swing the Cooper River because it is simply, unmistakably Charleston. It evokes visions of calm tidal creeks, and the easy rhythm of Lowcountry living. Just like the river itself, the Cooper River Swing Bed was designed to feel timeless, grounded, and made for moments you remember. 

Where Rustic Meets Contemporary

The Cooper River occupies interesting territory in our collection. It’s our most rustic charleston bed swing, but there’s a restraint to the design that keeps it from feeling heavy or dated. The proportions are balanced. The lines, while not minimalist, are clean. There are no decorative scrolls or ornamental carvings, as the visual interest comes entirely from the familiar composition itself.

This means The Cooper River is highly adaptable, and works in vast array of settings: traditional Southern porches, modern industrial patios, coastal cottage decks, Craftsman screened porches, or even indoor spaces with exposed brick and timber beams. The finish you choose has a huge impact, but the final product of  unfinished Cedar or Teak Coopers is truly something you have to see for yourself to truly appreciate.

Kiln-Dried Pine (Included) — Pine’s grain pattern complements the rustic aesthetic beautifully, especially in a whitewashed or weathered finish.

A-Grade Mahogany — Rich, warm, and deeply dimensional. Mahogany in a stain finish brings out incredible grain depth that amplifies the handcrafted character of this charleston bed swing.

A-Grade Teak — Left unfinished or oiled, Teak gives The Cooper River a raw, organic quality that feels almost architectural. Its natural weather resistance means virtually zero maintenance.

A-Grade Cedar — Naturally aromatic, lightweight, and develops character over time — a natural pairing for a design meant to age gracefully.

Four Sizes Including Queen

Loveseat (57″L x 32″D x 25.5″H) — Compact but full of character. Fits our Loveseat mattress.

Twin (80″L x 43″D x 25.5″H) — Our most popular size. Fits a standard twin mattress. Comfortable for 2–3 adults.

Full (80″L x 58″D x 25.5″H) — Spacious. The rustic character really comes alive at this scale. Fits a standard full mattress.

Queen (85″L x 64″D x 25.5″H) — Our largest Cooper River. A true outdoor bed. Fits a standard queen mattress. Stunning as a centerpiece on a large covered porch.
