Where other porch beds lean rustic or traditional, The Charlotte goes in a different direction entirely. Modern, clean, and unmistakably elegant, there really isn’t anything quite like it (in our lineup or elsewhere). The solid paneled backrest is what sets this modern beauty apart from every other bed swing on the market. There are no slats, no gaps, no visual noise. Just a smooth, unbroken surface that gives the entire piece a sense of weight and permanence.
That design choice isn’t just aesthetic. The solid back creates a cocooned feeling when you’re lounging . You’re sheltered from wind and visually enclosed in a way that open-slat designs simply can’t match. Every Charlotte porch swing bed is built by hand in our workshop in Charleston, SC. We don’t use assembly lines, CNC’s, or any automated process. Each piece starts as individually hand-selected rough stock lumber, which is then surfaced, prepped, and assembled by our team of skilled artisans.
The joinery of The Charlotte is no different than any of our other pieces. Industrial grade Timber Screws provide a serviceable, easy to assemble shipping platform, while permanent joints are affixed via Mortise and Tenon. For the uninitiated, Mortise and Tenon joinery is centuries-old woodworking technique that creates incredibly strong, tight-fitting joints without relying on screws or bolts at critical stress points. This is the same method used in heirloom furniture and timber-frame construction. It’s why our swing beds don’t creak, don’t loosen, and don’t wobble — whether it’s been five months or five years.
Before your Charlotte leaves our shop, it goes through a triple quality check: we assemble it, disassemble it, and reassemble it to verify every joint, every surface, and every dimension perfectly aligns. Only then does it move to our in-house paint booth for finishing.
Regardless of species chosen, every Charlotte receives the same top quality Marine Grade ply for backrest construction. Each of these modern porch swing beds starts with your choice of wood species, selected for their workability, durability, and resistance to the elements:
Kiln-Dried Pine (Standard) — Our architectural-grade softwood is the most popular choice. Lightweight, strong, and beautifully receptive to paint finishes. An excellent all-around option for covered porches and sunrooms.
A-Grade Mahogany — A premium tropical hardwood known for its natural rot resistance and exceptional durability. Mahogany adds a level of refinement and longevity that’s hard to match.
A-Grade Cedar — Naturally aromatic and weather-resistant, Cedar is the lightest of our three options and offers outstanding dimensional stability. A great choice for homeowners prioritizing natural resistance to moisture and insects.
Loveseat (60″L x 31.5″D x 26.5″H) — Perfect for smaller porches, apartment balconies, or as a cozy two-person retreat. Fits our Loveseat-size mattress (28″ x 52″).
Twin (83″L x 42.5″D x 26.5″H) — Our most popular size. Fits a standard twin mattress (39″ x 75″) and comfortably seats 2-3 adults or provides generous lounging space for one.
Full (83″L x 57.5″D x 26.5″H) — Maximum lounging space. Fits a standard full mattress (54″ x 75″). Ideal for larger porches and families who want room to spread out.
Please note The Charlotte’s solid-back construction means this model is finished with paint only (stain is not available for this design). Choose from our curated palette of Sherwin-Williams colors, including Pure White, Caviar Black, Gray Matters, Tidewater, and many more.
Custom color requests are welcome — simply input your preferred Sherwin-Williams code when building your swing.

Due to the assembly technique of the Charlotte’s backrest, this swing bed can only be painted.
There is too little surface area to safely top mount the Charlotte’s hanging hardware due to the size of the armrests and composition of the backrest.
We recommend a minimum 12” clearance on the sides of the swing, but 18” is the sweet spot if you can manage it. A Twin-size Charlotte (83″ long) generally needs a porch at least 8 feet wide. Email us your porch measurements at relax@lcswingbeds.com and we’ll help you choose or we can modify any of our standard sizes to fit your needs.
We’d be offended if you didn’t! Many customers hang The Charlotte in sunrooms, screened porches, master bedrooms, nurseries, and covered patios. As long as your ceiling structure can support the weight, it works beautifully indoors. Be sure to consult a contractor if you’re unsure.
Current lead times are 5–7 weeks for standard production and 2–4 weeks for expedited orders. Your modern porch swing bed is built to order with tremendous intention and care. You’ll never find one of our products sitting in a warehouse.
