At Lowcountry Swing Beds, we believe the forests, fabrics, and craftsmanship behind our products should leave the world better than we found it. Every step of our process is designed with sustainable practices in mind.
We are a small workshop in Charleston, South Carolina, building swing beds by hand, one at a time. That closeness to our craft gives us something larger manufacturers often lose: the ability to know exactly where our materials come from, how they’re made, and what happens long after they leave our shop.
Sustainability isn’t a marketing initiative for us. It’s a series of deliberate choices we make every day about the wood we select, the fabrics we trust, and the forests we help restore.
Sustainability factors into every stage of our manufacturing process, from the wood and fabrics we use to the organizations we support.
Every swing bed we build uses lumber certified by the Forest Stewardship Council, which is regarded as the global gold standard for responsible forestry. FSC certification means our wood has been traced from a responsibly managed forest through every step of the supply chain to our workshop. It ensures that biodiversity is protected, local communities are supported, and ecosystems are preserved for future generations.
We pay more for FSC-certified lumber because a product built to last for decades deserves materials harvested with the next century of forest health in mind.
Every cushion and pillow we produce is upholstered exclusively in Sunbrella performance fabrics — a fellow South Carolina company with deep roots in sustainable manufacturing.
Sunbrella diverts over 90% of manufacturing waste from landfills and incorporates recycled fibers into its materials. Their fabrics are engineered to resist fading, mold, and weather for years, meaning less replacement and less waste over time.
We take from the forest, so we give back to the forest. Lowcountry Swing Beds is a proud member of the National Forest Foundation’s Sapling Program. Through annual donations, we support the reforestation of National Forests damaged by wildfire, disease, and climate change.
The NFF has planted over 55 million seedlings since 2001, providing clean water, restoring wildlife habitat, and building climate resilience across America’s public lands.
Beyond the materials we choose, sustainability shows up in how we run our workshop every day.
Every swing bed is crafted only after it’s ordered. No mass production, no warehouse full of unsold inventory, no wasted materials on products that never find a home.
Our entire operation lives under one roof in Charleston. Keeping production local eliminates the long-distance shipping and fragmented supply chains that drive up emissions in factory-made furniture.
We work with local milling companies that share our commitment to responsible lumber practices. This keeps our supply chain short, transparent, and rooted in the Southeast.
Our swing beds are finished with Sherwin-Williams coatings, which is an industry leader in developing low-VOC and environmentally conscious paint technologies.
A handcrafted Lowcountry Swing Bed is built to be part of your home for generations, not seasons. In a world of disposable outdoor furniture, longevity is its own form of sustainability.
Less replacement means less waste, fewer raw materials consumed, and a smaller footprint over time. When you invest in something designed to last, you’re making a choice that’s better for your home and the planet.Â
